
ALISON SOUNESS
Over the last 25 years Alison has appeared in many jurisdictions including the Family Court, Environment Court, Coroner’s Court, High Court and at employment and family dispute mediations. She currently specialises in Family Court and Coroner’s Court appearances. Alison particularly enjoys her role as Lawyer for the Children in the Family Court. She is regularly appointed by the Family Court to act as Lawyer for Children and Counsel to Assist the Court.
Alison has a busy property practice (acquisition and division) and is particularly interested in the interface between property and family relationships. She has acted on many property disputes and is regularly referred this work by other professionals. She has acted on a number of large property disputes involving Wills and Testamentary Promises.
Alison is a founding trustee of the Orokohanga Music Trust and the immediate past Chair of the Board of Trustees of Woodford House. She the Deputy Convenor of the Hawke’s Bay New Zealand Law Society Standards Committee and is the past President of the Hawke’s Bay Branch of the New Zealand Law Society. Alison has previously served in governance roles for Hastings Women’s Refuge (chair), DOVE Hawke’s Bay, Family Care and Havelock North Playcentre (chair). Alison is a member of the Family Law Section and the Property Law Section of the New Zealand Law Society.
