Richard has extensive litigation experience. He has appeared many times in the Court of Appeal High Court and District Court (both in the summary and trial jurisdiction). Richard has developed a practice in property (particularly relationship property) and estate dispute resolution. He enjoys looking for creative solutions to client’s problems and disputes.
He has a particular interest in protection of the vulnerable. He is regularly appointed by the Family Court as Lawyer for the children, Lawyer to Assist the Court, Lawyer for the Subject Person (PPPR Act) and Youth Advocate.
Richard is the Hawke’s Bay District Inspector of Mental Health Services and a trustee of the Maraetotara Tree Trust. He has previously chaired Te Mata School Board of Trustees, served as a founding board member of Project K Hawke’s Bay and as a committee member of the Hawke’s Bay Mountain Bike Club.
Richard is a member of the Family Law Section and the Criminal Bar Association of the New Zealand Law Society.
